Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) would take joint research initiatives with the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and develop various policy papers on the economy. The initiative on various projects of mutual interest would produce beneficial outcomes for the businesses and the economy.
FBR notifies regulations for evidence of identity to accessing Pakistan Single Window
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday notified regulations for evidence of identity for accessing Pakistan Single Window (PSW). The revenue body said that these regulations apply to all users, including individuals, sole proprietorships or bodies corporate registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) or the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, government organizations, diplomatic missions, foreign individuals and businesses or any other commercial and non-commercial entity engaged in cross-border trade, as well as the users involved in the provision of trade related services.
PSW Rolls Out the Lab Management System for the Ease of Doing Business
Pakistan Single Window (PSW) has begun rolling out the Lab Management System (LMS) for the electronic processing of lab test requests initiated by government agencies for clearance of imports/exports. In the first phase laboratories associated with the Department of Plant Protection (DPP) are on board with the system with the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) lab in Karachi and the GMO Testing Lab of Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute (AARI) Faisalabad being the first ones to be fully integrated on the PSW platform.

Pakistan Single Window (PSW) has begun rolling out the Lab Management System (LMS) for electronic processing of lab test requests initiated by the government agencies for clearance of imports/exports. The new service enables the authorized officials from the relevant government departments to electronically request lab testing of any imported or exported goods and view the results online before issuing the requisite license, permit, certificate, or any other authorization.
KP business delegation calls on Chairman FBR
President of KCC&I and Chairman Council of Border Trade Chambers, Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi informed the Chairman FBR about the problems being faced by traders during clearance of goods through Pakistan Single Window System (PSW) and by different other departments including Animal Quarantine Department (AQD) and Plant Protection Department.
FBR chairman asked to solve business community’s problems
A delegation, led by President of the Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi, met Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Asim Ahmed here at Peshawar Customs House on Friday. Kazmi applauded the creation of an international grade port in Torkham, but claimed that the project’s unnecessary delay had exacerbated the plight of traders. He said that the project will be completed as soon as possible through local employment to benefit shopkeepers and local residents. Barter trade with Afghanistan and Iran was also discussed.

Production at 30% units halted
In a poor economic situation, where the country is facing a shortage of dollars, import restrictions, difficulties in opening Letters of Credit (LCs) and scarcity of raw material, the industrial wheel has become virtually paralyzed. Traders and industrialists are becoming increasingly worried as containers have been stuck at port for weeks, which has stymied the supply of key inputs to many industrial concerns. Production of goods at an estimated 30% of factories has come to a halt. Businessmen fear that if the government does not bring the situation under control quickly, trade and industrial activities will grind to a complete halt within the next 45 to 60 days.
SBP issues quota-based sugar export mechanism
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), following instructions from the government, has issued a mechanism for the export of sugar and advised banks to process export cases in accordance with the allotted quota. In a circular released late on Friday, the SBP directed banks to process the cases regarding the allocation of sugar export quotas for the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As per the mechanism, mills must provide a sugar export contract and clearance certificate issued by the concerned cane commissioner to the effect that the concerned sugar mill has cleared outstanding dues of the farmers for sugarcane crop up to 2021-22.
